What will be done with my students

The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is a K-12 educational outreach facility of the Florida A&M University- Florida State University College of Engineering and strives to foster long-term interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through the programs of the Challenger Learning Center, we will create positive learning experiences for students and motivate these students to pursue higher education and careers in these fields. Students will participate in hands-on, minds-on learning labs and demonstrations to bring STEM concepts to life. Paired with programming in the space mission simulator, IMAX theatre, and planetarium theatre, the Challenger Learning Center provides a field trip experience that is out-of-this-world.

Benefits to my students

The Space Mission Simulator offers students the next best thing to actual space flight with a NASA-inspired Mission Control room and an orbiting space station modeled after the laboratory on the International Space Station. Students get to play the role of astronauts to work with their counterparts in Mission Control to fly a simulated space mission. The IMAX theatre provides students the opportunity to witness educational documentaries in the field of science. The Downtown Digital Dome Theatre and Planetarium is a high-definition theatre with state-of-the-art projectors. The planetarium features educational and entertaining programming, inviting students to view the night sky and explore the galaxy. Dynamic Demos and Learning Labs are hands-on science demonstrations and activities aligned to Next Generation Science Standards. Topics range from general science to rocketry and robotics, and themed learning labs are available to accompany IMAX documentaries and planetarium shows. The Challenger Learning Center is unique and a huge asset to the students of our community.
