Walton Education Foundation

The goal of this project is to provide teachers access to a color printer in order to enrich instruction, engage students and parents, and brighten our classrooms. We will use the printer to create math games, task cards, and anchor charts. We will also create instructional posters, parent letters, and reference sheets in order to engage both students and parents. Currently teachers are limited to using their personal printers and ink supplies in order to create more engaging materials, which means it rarely happens. Having access to a color printer would not just enrich my classroom, but my teammates classrooms as well!

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 70

My grant project was to add a colored printer to my classroom for both student and teacher use. Over all, my students love the ability to create something and print it in color for thier classmates to see. This includes presentations, note pages, and one pagers. Teachers have also benefited from use of the colored printer by being able to print ancher charts, note pages, and even house decor for their classrooms. Student engagment has increased over all as a result of this grant.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this project is to provide teachers access to a color printer in order to enrich instruction, engage students and parents, and brighten our classrooms. We will use the printer to create math games, task cards, and anchor charts. We will also create instructional posters, parent letters, and reference sheets in order to engage both students and parents. Currently teachers are limited to using their personal printers and ink supplies in order to create more engaging materials, which means it rarely happens. Having access to a color printer would not just enrich my classroom, but my teammates classrooms as well!

What will be done with my students

This project will impact AT LEAST 70 students that I teach daily, in addition to the potential that other teachers will use this resource for their own classrooms. Keeping 10 and 11 year olds engaged every day is a difficult challenge. Teachers supplement their curriculum in many ways to motivate and encourage students to work together as well as independently. While the color printer will primarily be used by me, the teacher, students will also be able to use the printer in order to print color images, graphs, and texts for various projects throughout the year.

Benefits to my students

I believe that by creating more colorful and engaging classroom materials, both students and parents will be more invested in their academic success. Students will be able to thrive in a creative environment that is full of resources and information that grabs their attention each day. On average, a 10 year old can maintain focus for about 20 minutes. My math block lasts a total of 90 minutes, which means I am having to redirect and engage students at least 4 times each block. My goal is to reduce the amount of times I am having to redirect students from 4 times each block to 2.
