With these materials, I intend to record myself explaining and walking students through ELA concepts that tend to be a bit trickier. This might include writing a thesis statement, developing a counterclaim, or understanding the theme of a story.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 136

While we do not yet have FAST writing or PM3 reading scores, students still utilized the videos that I recorded and uploaded as they prepared for both assessments. Students completed a survey rating the effectiveness and helpfulness of the videos. The average score was a 4.45 (with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest). I noticed that my students who already are fairly proficient in ELA tended to score the videos lower, with my students who tend to struggle rating the videos higher. This is a great outcome, as I tried to make the videos as a supplement to regular instruction to reach my struggling students who might not speak up as much.

My students were so grateful for the opportunities that this grant provided! Thank you so much for these materials. I can't wait to see the impact on their state assessment scores!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

With these materials, I intend to record myself explaining and walking students through ELA concepts that tend to be a bit trickier. This might include writing a thesis statement, developing a counterclaim, or understanding the theme of a story.

What will be done with my students

This technology will impact all 140 of my students. It will impact another 140 students if my grade level partner chooses to utilize the lessons as well. Students will be able to review difficult concepts as they complete work and prepare for the FAST test. I will post the lessons that I record in each class period's Microsoft Teams group so that students can easily access them.

Benefits to my students

In addition to being able to provide more specialized support for students, I also will be able to provide more instruction on the BEST texts. The state has now released a list of texts that are recommended for each grade level to read. With this technology, I can record myself walking students through analyses of the BEST texts that we don't have time to get through in class.

Students will also be able to view my lessons for specific concepts at their own leisure, including in ESE students' Unique Skills classes.
