Original Grant Overview

Goal

The objective of our project is to enhance the educational experience of our students by integrating technology into our classrooms. iPads will be a valuable tool for both small group instruction and providing text-to-speech accommodations, ensuring that all students, including those with diverse learning needs, have equitable access to a quality education.

What will be done with my students

**Digital Quizzes and Assessments**: Create digital quizzes and assessments to gauge students' understanding of social studies concepts using tools like Quizlet, or Google Forms.

**Interactive Maps**: Use map apps like Google Maps or National Geographic to explore geographical features, historical sites, and current events around the world. Students can also create their own interactive maps using apps like ArcGIS or MapMaker Interactive.

**Virtual Tours**: Take virtual tours of historical landmarks, museums, and cultural sites using apps like Google Arts & Culture, Historic Places, or Virtual History Tours.

**Research Projects**: Assign research projects on historical events, figures, or cultures. Encourage students to use the iPad to access digital libraries, databases, and online resources for their research.

**Primary Source Analysis**: Access digital archives and primary source documents related to historical events. Apps like DocsTeach provide access to a wealth of primary source materials.

Benefits to my students

iPads will enable our teachers to engage students in targeted small group instruction. This personalized approach allows educators to address the unique needs of each student, whether it be through interactive educational apps, multimedia content, or individualized assessments. The iPads will facilitate collaborative learning and provide immediate feedback, promoting a more interactive and engaging classroom environment.

A significant portion of our student population faces challenges related to reading and processing written text. With iPads, we can implement text-to-speech software and applications, ensuring that these students have access to the curriculum on an equal footing. This technology will empower students to listen to texts, instructions, and assignments, which can be especially beneficial for those with dyslexia, visual impairments, or language barriers.
