Reading one book is like eating one potato chip. Our class wants more! Dr. Seuss once wrote "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." A good book opens up a whole world of knowledge. I want to pass on the love of reading and choosing good books to my students.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 47

Thanks to the generous support of our grant investors, our classroom has experienced a significant transformation in the field of literacy. Through the acquisition of a diverse array of books, including titles that adhere to Florida DOE/B.E.S.T. standards, our students now enjoy a wider selection of reading materials. This expanded library has not only fostered a greater enthusiasm for reading among our students but has also deepened their comprehension of various literary genres and themes.

During independent reading sessions and small group book club meetings, students have eagerly immersed themselves in these new books, engaging with captivating stories and stimulating narratives. The integration of recommended books from the Florida DOE/B.E.S.T. standards has enriched our curriculum, enabling us to delve into important subjects while meeting educational standards.

The impact of this grant extends beyond our classroom walls. Through daily reading activities and interactive discussions, students have shown improvements in comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. They have embraced the chance to explore different worlds, cultures, and perspectives through literature, broadening their horizons with each page turned.

Furthermore, the accessibility of these books has empowered students to take charge of their reading journeys, encouraging a sense of independence and self-empowerment. By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where books are readily accessible, we have cultivated a community of lifelong learners who are passionate about discovering the endless opportunities that reading brings.

We are tremendously thankful to our grant investors for their steadfast support and dedication to education. Their generosity has not only enhanced the lives of our students but has also inspired them to embark on a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment through the transformative power of reading.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Reading one book is like eating one potato chip. Our class wants more! Dr. Seuss once wrote "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." A good book opens up a whole world of knowledge. I want to pass on the love of reading and choosing good books to my students.

What will be done with my students

My students have independent reading time along with small group time for book club. Sometimes. the students have a difficult time locating interesting books in the media center. Also, we are limited on the books we are allowed to buy, read, and have in the classroom. This grant will be used to grow my classroom library following along with the B.E.S.T. book guidelines. The books will be checked in/out through me to ensure the books are available for future students. We will also read one book at a time during small groups and dive deeper into the text. These novels are recommended from the Florida DOE/B.E.S.T. standards books.

Benefits to my students

Studies show that engaging in daily reading exercises and participating in discussions can significantly enhance students' comprehension skills and cognitive development. Encouraging our students to read together with their peers, analyze characters and plots, and explore the world through literature will yield substantial benefits. We will use these books during small group book studies and independent reading time. This collaborative reading approach will not only expand their vocabulary and general knowledge but also enhance their overall academic performance across all subjects. This will also increase AR reading and points. Books will be easily accessible.

Budget Narrative

All books and bookshelf are found on Amazon. All are B.E.S.T. Books/approved AR reading books. Six books each typed like this: (6). Six books will be used during small group. The total cost is all six books together.
