Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

The students were pumped when I pulled out the drone boxes.  They could not wait until I pulled them out.  It was a struggle to educate them about drones before actually flying them.  They needed their hands on them - FAST!  :)

The drones helped teach different topics and subjects.  The drones allowed the students to work hands-on and made their learning easier by providing a tangible way to experiment with real world problems.

Finding ways to allow students to work hands on is imporjtant for student engagement.  My students enjoyed working with these drones. As you know, worksheets are not always the best method of teaching - different students learn in a variety of ways.  Drones can help teach different topics and subjects when one has the ability to imagine.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

*Students will become more familiar with robotics.
*The use of drones encourages STEM learning.
*Drones can also be used to teach the importance of safety and responsibility within the aviation industry.
*Students can learn about drone technology and its diverse applications.
*The curriculum would give students the opportunity to become more technologically literate whilst having fun at the same time.

What will be done with my students

Students will create flight plans and test them by flying the drone. That way, they can experience real-world problems that arise from poor planning. Other uses:
1. Drone races
2. Stem challenges
3. Obstacle courses
4. Art and drones

Benefits to my students

A new report from Samsung’s Alternative Careers Guide, released back in August 2020 discovered that 16-to-18-year-olds are no longer interested in traditional jobs such as becoming an accountant, teacher or lawyer. Instead, they sparked more interest in digital roles – with a drone operator being amongst the top ten most popular dream careers. Over recent years, it has become increasingly common for teachers to utilize interactive learning tools such as drones within the classroom.
By welcoming drones into the classroom, teachers have a new way of making learning more fun, innovative and interactive for children. Drones also provide students with the opportunity to learn about technology that they may wish to base their future career on.
