Impact to My Classroom

I am so thankful to have had this grant funded for our students. This grant has given them the opportunity to learn in a way that suits them best as individuals. A lot of our students work best when given the opportunity for extra movement outside of what a traditional chair provides them. Our students have loved using the wobble disks, floor pads, floor desks, and floor loungers during class discussion and it has helped them be able to stay more focused on what we are learning. Each day, our students come in and immediately grab their chosen form of alternative seating. We have also issued some of our seating to their homeroom teachers for use in the gen ed classroom. During FAST testing, our students spend the majority of the day sitting on their computers and offering them alernative types of seating helped them stay focused on their test (and kept some of them awake as well ;) ). Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing to fund this grant. We cannot wait to see the impact that it is going to make on our students next year.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to help create the best learning environment for all of our students while meeting their sensory needs. All of our students are ESE and benefit from having alternative seating available to them. Each student is different so our goal is to have a wide variety of seating so they can choose what works best for their learning.

What will be done with my students

The alternative seating will be used by our students on a daily basis. Some of our students like to sit on the floor while others like to sit in a chair but require room to move. Our students also take state and district tests in our classroom and would benefit from having the opportunity to move in their seats while testing as opposed to having to stand up and move around.

Benefits to my students

- Improve the student's ability to focus
-Less movement around the classroom if it is available at their seat
- Helps them feel empowered by having some choice and control over their environment.
- Flexible seating allows students to move around, increasing oxygen flow to the brain
-An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student. Flexible seating helps them stay calm, focused, and productive.

Each item is a form of flexible/alternative seating. All seating will be available to our ESE students within the ESE classroom. Seating will be used on a daily basis.
