To increase literature interaction and comprehension through an in depth novel study of literary elements.
I have an exciting idea that will help students organize their book study in a creative and visual way. Let’s talk about creating lapbooks to visually organize literary elements.
Now, you might be wondering, what are literary elements? Well, literary elements are the building blocks of a story. They are the different parts that make up a book and help readers understand and enjoy the story even more. These elements include things like characters, setting, plot, theme, problem, solution, and author's purpose.
First, lapbooks are a fun and interactive way to organize and display the literary elements of a book. Instead of just writing everything down on a regular piece of paper, students can create a special kind of folder that will hold all the important elements of their book reports. Creatively folding a manilla file folders is the beginning foundation
of a lapbook. Lapbooks also consist of different mini-books or foldables that allow students to easily organize and keep track of each element all in one place. Creating lapbooks allow students to be creative and showcase our understanding of the story. They can use colorful pictures, drawings, and even add some fun facts about the author or interesting quotes from the book to personalize their research.
There are learning benefits to creating lapbooks for an in-depth book study such as enhancing reading skills. When students engage in an in-depth book study, they have the opportunity to improve their reading skills. By diving deeper into a book, students can develop a better understanding of the plot, characters, and the author's purpose. This practice helps students become better readers and strengthens their ability to comprehend the current text as well as more complex texts in the future.
Another benefit of an in depth book study is to increase vocabulary retention. During a book study, students encounter new words and phrases that expand their vocabulary. As they read the book together, students will come across words that they may not have encountered before. By learning and using these new words, they can improve communication skills and express their ideas more effectively.
In depth book studies can spark creativity and imagination by immersing students in book elements that open a world of imagination and creativity. As we read, we visualize the characters, settings, and events in our minds. Through a book study, students can explore their creativity by creating artwork while organizing literary elements.
So, let's embrace the wonders of reading and allow my students to embark on an exciting book study journey!
