Goal

1. Enhance Scientific Knowledge: Incorporating Weather STEM into our curriculum will allow our students to develop a deeper understanding of meteorology and environmental science. They will learn about weather patterns, climate, and the impact of weather on plants, making our science and gardening classes more comprehensive and engaging.
2. Interdisciplinary Learning: Weather STEM provides an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to apply their math and technology skills to real-world situations. This approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
3. Hands-On Experience: Weather STEM offers a hands-on experience for our students, enabling them to actively engage with weather data, sensors, and technology. This practical experience will make learning more tangible and memorable.

What will be done with my students

1. Students will design weather/plant correlation experiments. Students will investigate the correlation between weather conditions and plant growth. They will design experiments to determine how temperature, sunlight, humidity, and rainfall affect plant development and health.
2. Students will use weather data to plan and optimize their gardening activities. They will learn to determine the best times for planting, watering, and harvesting based on weather conditions, in order to increase the yield and health of their plants.
3. Gardening students will keep weather journals. They will record their daily observations, noting the weather conditions and how they impact their surroundings in the garden.

Benefits to my students

1. Improved Scientific Understanding: Students will gain a better understanding of meteorological concepts and how they relate to the world around them. This knowledge will help them become more environmentally conscious and informed citizens.
2. Enhanced Critical Thinking: By applying STEM principles to analyze weather data and its impact on gardening, students will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to solve complex problems.
3. Real-World Relevance: Weather STEM will make our science and gardening curriculum more relevant by connecting it to everyday life. Students will appreciate the practical applications of science and technology in their daily experiences.
4. Motivation and Engagement: Integrating Weather STEM into our lessons will boost student engagement, as it presents exciting and interactive ways to explore scientific principles.

Budget Narrative

Our grant application is focused on securing funding to support the implementation of Weather STEM at Seaside Neighborhood School. While the requested grant amount will not cover the full costs of this initiative, it will significantly contribute to its realization.
The entirety of the grant funding will be dedicated to the acquisition of Weather STEM equipment. This equipment includes weather sensors, a weather station, and related tools. These components are crucial for the collection of real-time weather data, which will serve as the foundation of our students' hands-on learning experiences.
This real-time weather data will not only support our science and gardening curriculum but also provide invaluable resources for student research projects and experiments. By investing in this equipment, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of meteorology and environmental science among our students, enhancing their educational experience.
