Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Florida Power & Light - $991.69
The goal of my grant is to transform the way students engage with science, in turn making concepts relatable. I would like to purchase lab equipment and materials that would allow students to conduct their own experiments. My expected outcome with this grant is improved student engagement and achievement.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
I plan to create an environment that encourages collaborative work among students. Each month, I will facilitate labs and experiments aligned with our district curriculum. I'll provide guidance and monitor student progress while allowing them to explore and discover on their own. The number of kits available will ensure that lab groups remain small, promoting greater participation from each student.
To assess the success of this grant, we will employ a range of evaluation methods, including the district's end-of-year Science test, grades, performance assessments, and survey results. By monitoring students' progress in areas such as knowledge acquisition, behavioral changes, skill development, and overall scores, we will effectively measure the project's impact. Additionally, I will conduct surveys to collect feedback from students on their enjoyment, engagement, and perceptions of science education. These evaluation strategies will provide concrete evidence of the project's effectiveness and support ongoing improvements for future implementations.
Balancing Act:
Activity- Use a precision balance to find the mass of certain objects. Explore the Law of Conservation of Mass. Learning Resources Precision School Balance, Includes Weights (Qty: 5)
Magnet Exploration:
Activity: Use magnets to explore magnetic fields, attract/repel materials, and create simple magnetic games. EUDAX Labs Junior Science Magnet Set for Education Science Experiment Tools Icluding Bar/Ring/Horseshoe/Compass Magnets (Qty: 13)
Rocks/Minerals:
Activity: Identify the three categories of rocks: igneous, (formed from molten rock); sedimentary (pieces of other rocks and fossilized organisms); and metamorphic (formed from heat and pressure). Identify the physical properties of common earth-forming minerals, including hardness, color, luster, cleavage, and streak color, and recognize the role of minerals in the formation of rocks.
STEM Toy Mineral Science Kit Geology Rock Specimen for Young Geologists (Qty: 4)
STEM Toy Rock Science Kit Geology Mineral Specimen For Kid Geologists (Qty:4)
Life Cycle of a Butterfly:
Activity: Students will explore the life cycle of a butterfly. Life cycles vary among organisms, but reproduction is a major stage in the life cycle of all organisms.
Insect Lore Butterfly Pavilion with Two Live Cups of Caterpillars | 2ft Tall Habitat, STEM Butterfly Journal, 10 Live Baby Caterpillars | Life Science & STEM Education | Painted Lady Butterfly Kit (Qty:1)
Sugar Shake:
Activity: Students will shake a sugar cube in mason jar to show weathering. Describe the basic differences between physical weathering (breaking down of rock by wind, water, ice, temperature change, and plants) and erosion (movement of rock by gravity, wind, water, and ice).
Ball 16oz Mason Jars Regular Mouth,12-Pack, Clear (Qty: 2)
C&H Premium Pure Cane Sugar Cubes, 1 LB Box (Pack of 3) (Qty: 1)
Creating Engineers:
Snap Circuits for Beginners kit is safe with no tools required. Students will create real electronic circuits. Components combine to create working circuit boards just like the ones found inside televisions, radios, and other electronic devices. This kit contains more than 20 projects and teaches the “how” behind how switches and circuits work.
Snap Circuits Beginner, Electronics Exploration Kit, Stem Kit for Ages 5-9 (SCB-20) (Qty: 12)
Creating Astronomers:
Sun, Earth, Moon Orbital Model allows students to will allow students to visualize and better understand revolution and rotation.
Sun Earth Moon Orbital Model, Orbital Planetarium Model Kids Educational Geography Model Astronomical Teaching Tool, 3D Model Rotating Model Science Educational Kits Sphere Instrument (Qty: 1)
With these engaging experiments, I'll not only enhance my students' understanding of scientific concepts but also spark a lasting interest in science!
To meet these goals and objectives, I estimate a funding requirement of $992.00, which includes some flexibility for taxes, shipping, and potential cost fluctuations. This funding will allow me to acquire essential science materials, such as lab equipment, models, and specialized kits aimed at encouraging inquiry-based learning. By supporting this project, you will be contributing to the education and development of my 44 fourth-grade students this school year. Additionally, as these materials are reused, the project will benefit every child who enters my classroom. Through this initiative, I aim to foster a generation of scientists!
