Goal

Our first goal is for 80% of our fourth grade students to be proficient on the FAST ELA PM3 Assessment.

Our second goal is to increase student engagement during the reading block.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

With these funds Mrs. Michie and I will purchase two classroom sets of books from the Florida State B.E.S.T books list, one set for each of our classes. We will read these passages daily, practice specific Florida B.E.S.T. reading standards, and then incorporate these passages into our writing and social studies lessons.

Benefits to my students

Our students need interesting and complex texts for two reasons:
1. We want our students to be engaged in reading and develop a love for reading.
2. We want our students to practice their higher order thinking skills using nonfiction passages.

In addition, the Florida Department of Education lists these books as books that all fourth graders should read in order to increase reading proficiency. By reading these books in class, students will master fourth grade reading standards and increase proficiency on their test scores.

Budget Narrative

They are high-interest, complex texts that will engage my students and help them practice the Florida B.E.S.T. standards as well as critical thinking skills. We will use the copy paper to print and copy activites for engaging, standards-based instruction.
