What will be done with my students

We, as fourth and fifth grade Math, Science, and Social Studies teachers feel that our students need a time to come in to their class and have a moment to decompress before the hard work begins. Soft start is a way for students to enter the classroom and give their minds a break before applying themselves to their core classes. A soft start in the classroom is a gentle, individualized by choice, peaceful way to start their next set of core classes. A soft start can typically last ten to fifteen minutes and include activities such as games, blocks, and stem activities.

Benefits to my students

Soft start has been proven to have many benefits for students and teachers. Soft starts leads to improved relationships where students feel connected in their classroom. Soft starts helps to reduce anxiety and stress by starting their classes in a calm state, along with improving the focus of the children. Through soft start students social and emotional skill can be enhanced and increased motivation when students can start the day in a positive way. For the teachers soft start leads to better classroom management, improved academic performance, and long term well being where students can develop skills and habits that have a lasting impact.
