Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
The St. Joe Community Foundation - $1,000.00
I would like to purchase Wonderbooks for our media center. Wonderbooks are physical children's books with a pre-loaded, ready-to-play audiobook embedded in the cover, providing a read-along experience that combines printed text with narration. These books feature a built-in speaker, headphone jack, and a play button to start the audio. Wonderbooks also incorporate a "Learning Mode" providing questions to enhance comprehension and vocabulary development. Wonderbooks support reading fluency, foster independent reading, strengthen comprehension, and promote engagement across a multitude of grade levels.
The goal of the " A Wonder for Every Reader" project is to not only boost reading fluency, comprehension, and overall student engagement, but to provide additional support for our students who have varying ranges of literacy development.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
The following timeline of planned activities will adjust slightly if funds are awarded.
November–December: Purchase and catalog Wonderbooks to prepare for circulation.
December-January: Introduce Wonderbooks to students and collect baseline fluency data of target group.
January–March: Monitor and document fluency growth of the targeted group while monitoring Wonderbook checkouts using Destiny reports.
April: Conduct final data collection and analysis, compile results, and prepare findings to share with stakeholders.
By April 2026, all students will have access to Wonderbooks in the school library. To measure impact, a group of five 2nd grade students will be assessed to determine an average growth of 20% in reading fluency. The media specialist will use Destiny circulation reports to monitor the circulation of Wonderbooks throughout the school year. The books will be cataloged in Destiny with clear labeling and displays to promote visibility. Books will also be integrated into the Accelerated Reader program.
The requested funds will be used to purchase 16 Wonderbooks, bookmarks, and book storage bags. Wonderbooks provide high-quality print books with an integrated audio component, allowing students the opportunity to read and listen simultaneously.
Bookmarks will be provided to students as a practical tool to encourage consistent reading habits and to help them track their progress through longer texts. The addition of book storage bags ensures Wonderbooks can be safely transported between school and home. These bags protect the investment in materials while providing a layer of protection extending beyond the classroom. Collectively, these items directly support the project goal of increasing student reading fluency by providing engaging, durable, and accessible resources that foster a love for reading and measurable literacy growth.
