Goal

My goal is to boost literacy with my students using audiobooks in the classroom. These chapter books on CD will help to increase my students comprehension, motivation and self-confidence. Audio books will allow my students to be engaged in text and gain exposure to more words. Providing this read-aloud to my students will support reading skill development such as vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills. 

What will be done with my students

I plan to hook my readers by utilizing these audiobooks in several ways. One lesson will be to have them listen only long enough to a story to engage them to continue to read the book on their own. For example, I will play an audiobook clip from the middle rather than the beginning of a story in hopes that the drama and excitement will inspire them to read it on their own. I also want to instil and continue to develop and nurture my students love of reading. These chapter books have captivating characters and complex themes which makes reading interesting and will make it hard for the students to want to put the book down. They will also build stamina to read for longer periods of time which will help them focus on longer passages when it comes to assignments and assessments. 

Benefits to my students

Audio books model good interpretive reading and help to teach critical listening skills while helping students to
understand the content of the book. Audio books also help students see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. Students can follow along and focus on the sounds of words, difficult vocabulary and a model of fluent reading without any interruptions.
