Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 500

I cannot express how thankful my students and I are to have received your generous donations. My students asked me all year when it would be our turn to work in the garden, and they were ecstatic beyond belief when our new materials arrived!

My students water and tend the garden daily, and it is so wonderful to see the graden growing into a place students and teachers from all grade levels come to visit. The students are thriving on the responsibilities of taking care of the garden, and learning practical skills while working with the plants. Many teachers have used the garden for lessons throughout the year, and it produces healthy and delicious snacks all week long!

I want to deeply thank you for helping to provide out PES students with these materials, you never would think something so small could make such a difference -- but it does! I see it every day. These kids love the community garden, and treat it with care and respect, but most of all they LOVE being there and learning. Thank you again.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to improve and expand our school garden so that it will be a vibrant area for students to be responsible and reap the benefits of their hard work. Our goal is for our community garden to be accessible to all members of our school.

What will be done with my students

Students will work together to plant herbs, fruits, and vegetables. They will use the supplies outlined in this request to maintain the school garden. The garden will be integrated into science lessons across different grade levels.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit socially because they will synergize together when tending the plots. They will benefit educationally because the garden will be a hands-on science center that can be used in a wide variety of ways. It will be another way for us to involve parents and community members in our school community. Students will also have the nutritional benefit of healthy foods at snack each week, as well as taking home home-grown food to share with their families.

Budget Narrative

We are requesting tools to use to improve our school's community garden. We are requesting live fruit, vegetable, and herb plants for students to tend and harvest. We are requesting soil and other necessary materials and objects for the expansion and success of our school community garden.
