Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 450

Our STEAM carnival night was a huge success.  Our students and families enjoyed a night of literacy carnival games.  Students learned to love reading through the games made available to them that night and it showed through the classroom activities and test scores that followed.  Family members also learned how to support thier students at home in reading.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide our students with innovating and engaging games to play on our school's STEAM Carnival night that will reinforce their math, reading, and science skills.

What will be done with my students

At our school's STEAM Carnival night each grade level sets up fun games for students and their families to play. Our team will set up three different games for our STEAM Carnival night. Students can participate in our Multiples of Ten Bean Bag Toss where they throw a bean bag through the hole- each hole will be labeled with a number. Whatever hole the bean bag goes through the student will count by tens to that number and then win a prize.
The next game will be a Plinko type game from The Price Is Right. Each ending spot in Plinko will have a multiplication or addition problem. Students will answer the question their puck lands on. Younger students will answer the addition problem and older student multiplication. When they get the answer right they'll get a prize.
The last game will be a wheel spinning game. There will be various Science words all students know on each spot. When students spin the wheel, they'll define whatever science word they land on and win a prize.
Our STEAM Carnival is a huge event that many of our students and their families attend. Students will love these lifelike games!

Benefits to my students

Students will have a fun way of reinforcing their math, reading, and science skills. The STEAM Carnival is fun for all that attend.
