Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 101

The goal is to help students investigate and describe that an unbalanced force acting on an object changes its speed, direction of motion, or both. Students will create collisions and measure the position, velocity, and acceleration of the moving objects with the Vernier Motion Detectors.

**Due to the "stay at home" order, I was not able to use the items procured from the grant in th 2019-2020 school year. When we get back to school in the Fall, I will add an update along with photos.**

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to help students Investigate and describe that an unbalanced force acting on an object changes its speed, or direction of motion, or both. I hope to accomplish this by using air hover disks and Vernier Motion Detector.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to create collisions with the hover disk and the Motion Detector uses ultrasound to measure the position, velocity, and acceleration of moving objects.Students can use the data from the Motion Detector to create graphs to help study position, velocity, and acceleration.

Benefits to my students

The benefit to the students is hands-on learning. Students will be up, moving around, and studying "real" world problems. Through the activity; students can apply their knowledge to football tackles, car crashes, and more.

Budget Narrative

When performing hands on learning; students are arranged in centers. Centers typically consist of 4 students per group. I've requested enough materials so all students will have a task.

The Motion Detectors by Vernier are found on the Vernier Website; (https://www.vernier.com/products/sensors/motion-detectors/gdx-md/). The air hover disks are found from Amazon (https://smile.amazon.com/Can-You-Imagine-Power-Soccer/dp/B003JGSIWY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hover+puck&qid=1568987405&s=gateway&sr=8-3)
