Flexible seating is extremely important for young students who are still learning how to sit in a classroom for 7+ hours a day. Providing students with multiple means of seating allows them to get their wiggles out and work collaboratively around the classroom in a way that traditional desks and chairs can not. Allowing students to make the decision to chose the seating that is most conducive to their learning creates an environment in which students take accountability for their learning, and reduces unwanted behaviors. My students have truly enjoyed the wobble seats we have in our room and I can't wait to add even more. They also love to work on our carpet and the lapdesks will allow them to do that in a more efficient manner. Thank you for allowing me to provide my students an environment full of developmentally appropriate opportunities for learning.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to purchase a few different seating options to allow us to maximize the space in our classroom and create an environment conducive to collaborative learning.

What will be done with my students

I frequently encourage my students to move around the room and work in a space that is comfortable for them. Unfortunately, I don't have stools so students were constantly dragging their chairs with them, resulting in wasted time and disorganization. The stools included in this project will allow us to solve that problem, encouraging students to work collaboratively anywhere in the room.

Benefits to my students

The students will be encouraged to work with others which helps build leadership skills. Allowing students to move while learning is also known to benefit students' ability to focus.

Budget Narrative

I've included 5 wobble chairs, 5 stools and 10 floor seats with lap desks to allow a variety of seating options to students that can be used around the room.
