Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 450

     The addition of drums and other rhythm instruments to our music classroom has had a transformative impact on students learning and engagement.  Students of all backgrounds have eagerly participated in hands-on drumming activities that fostered a deeper understanding of rhythm, timing, and coordination.  Group drumming ensembles encouraged collaboration, activie listening, and teamwork, while improvisation activities allowed students to express themselves creatively in a supportive environment. 

     The physical act of drumming enhanced students' motor skills and provided a healthy outlet for stress relief and emoptional expression.  Most importantly, the drums created a more inclussive and dynamic classroom experience, ensuring that every students could find joyu and success in music, regardless of prior experience.

Goal

What will be done with my students

With the acquisition of drums, students will participate in a range of interactive and culturally diverse musical activities. These activities will include:
1. Rhythm and Percussion Techniques: Students will engage in hands-on lessons focused on learning and practicing different rhythms.
2. Cultural Exploration: Students will learn about the origins of various drums from around the world, deepening their understanding and appreciation of global music traditions.
3. Collaborative Ensemble Work: Students will work in groups to create drumming ensembles, learning to listen to each other and play in sync.
4. Compositions and Improvisation: Students will be encouraged to create their own rhythms and patterns, experimenting with improvisation.
5. Performance Opportunities: Students will showcase their learning through school performances.
By integrating these activities into the music classroom, the drums will become a powerful tool for student engagement, cultural education, and musical development.

5. Physical and Motor Skill Development: Playing drums involves the use of fine and gross motor skills, which can help improve hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity.
6. Increased Engagement and Motivation: Hands-on and interactive.
7. Stress Relief and Emotional Well-Being: Drumming has been shown to be an effective way to relieve stress and channel emotions positively.
8. Performance Confidence: Regular practice and performance opportunities will help students build confidence in their abilities. Students experience the process of working towards and accomplishing goals.

 

 

Budget Narrative

Asking for $1522.89 for a variety of frame drums, drumheads with buckets, lummi sticks and mallets to provide students with a diverse range of percussion instruments. This selections will allow for exploration of different musical traditions and will accommodate various students skill levels.
Justification: Having multiple types of drums will enable us to teach a wide array of rhythms and techniques. The diversity in instruments will also allow for differentiated instruction, ensuring that students with varying abilities can participate fully in the drumming activities.
